Boda Såg i Dalarna AB

Boda Sawmill is located in Boda, just outside Svärdsjö. Our sawmill has 15 dedicated employees who together produce around 40,000 m³ of sawn timber per year. Our expertise and experience make us a reliable partner. We hold Chain of Custody certification and can offer recognised certified products.

More than 130 years of history

The story begins in 1890 with a call from the residents of Boda to build a steam sawmill for sawing and selling forest products. The shares were 50 kronor each and 27 farms subscribed for 73 shares. After further share subscriptions and a starting capital of 15,050 kronor, the sawmill was ready by Midsummer 1891 – and has been sawing on this site ever since.

In the beginning, Boda Sawmill had 16 employees working as machinists, stokers, sawyers, assistant sawyers, edgers, slab handlers, stackers, timber yard workers and timber sorters. Production increased and by the turn of the century it had reached 12,000 logs per year. Transport was handled by horses until 1917, when the company bought its first truck, a Scania-Vabis. The horses continued to be used in the forest until the 1960s.

After the mid-1960s Boda Sawmill began modernising its operations to meet increased demands for quality and efficiency. It installed two frame saws, built a new planing and grading facility, and introduced machinery for chipping residues. A drying facility was built to shorten the turnaround time for the timber, and trucks took over the handling of logs and finished products.

Over the years the following people have been sawmill managers: Daniels Anders Jansson, Johan Viklund, Andreas Andersson, Anders Larsson, Karl Larsson, Göte Eriksson and Gunnar Björs. They have all contributed to the company’s development and success by leading and driving the business forward.

Challenges over the years

Despite hard work and commitment, the company was no longer able to compete during an economic crisis and went bankrupt in 1991. The sawmill was sold to Börje Törnberg and took the name Boda Såg i Dalarna AB. During the period Börje Törnberg ran the sawmill, investments were made in a grading line, new chamber kilns and a biofuel boiler. In February 2021 Börje sold the sawmill to his sons Dan Törnberg and Christoffer Ljungkvist.

Today

Dan and Christoffer have changed the company’s focus. Today we saw small-diameter spruce and pine logs, and we consume about 90,000 m³ of roundwood each year.

Boda Sawmill is a stable, environmentally aware company that has committed to several investments for the future. We continue to develop and aim to offer consistent sawn timber in spruce and pine to our customers. In 2022 the company was nominated as one of four candidates for Export Company of the Year in Dalarna.

Our vision is that even 100 years from now there will still be a small sawmill in Bodaviken.
